It’s all about kaitiakitanga!

Are you and your family doing awesome stuff on the farm to protect our environment? Do you “Farm for our Future”? Then we want to know!

Agrecovery is running a video competition for rural kids and schools to highlight what is being done to improve environmental performance on-farm, and to raise awareness of Agrecovery Rural Recycling in its 10th year of operation.

What do I do?

Make a short, fun video that shows how you and your family “Farm for Our Future”.

You could talk about what’s being done to improve the natural environment, water quality or animal welfare, waste reduction or recycling, or anything else that show how you and your family are being good stewards of our land (kaitiakitanga).

Categories and Prizes

There are two categories with a total prize pool of $2,000 so it’s worth telling us your story!

FAMILY – individual child or siblings under 18 years of age as of 30 June 2017

  • Prizes – $500 for the winning individual or siblings and $500 for his/her/their school

SCHOOL – school class or group under 18 years of age as of 30 June 2017

  • Prize – $1,000 for the winning school

When does it start?

Videos can be submitted from 1 April until 31 May 2017. They will be posted on the Agrecovery Facebook page.

A link will allow members of the public to vote for their favourite video from 15 May to 18 June 2017.

How do I know if I’ve won?

Winners will be decided by a combination of public vote (50% of the decision) and by Agrecovery programme managers, 3R Group (50% of the decision).

Public voting will be via a link on the Agrecovery website and Facebook page.

The winner will be announced in June 2017.

Things to think about

  • Entry form – you will need to request an entry form from info@agrecovery.co.nz before you submit your video.
  • Consent – don’t forget to get written consent from everyone appearing in your video, and if they are under 18 years of age, you will need written consent from their legal guardian.
  • Copyright – make sure you have permission to use any music or images that include in your video.

Agrecovery “Farm for our Future” Video Competition 2017 Rules and Regulations

  1.  The competition is open to individuals, siblings or teams according to the following categories:
  • FAMILY – individual child or siblings under 18 years of age as of 30 June 2017
  • SCHOOL – school class or group under 18 years of age as of 30 June 2017

  1. A total prize pool of $2,000 will be awarded as follows:
  • FAMILY – $500 for the winning individual or siblings and $500 for his/her/their school
  • SCHOOL – $1,000 for the winning school

  1. Video entries must be a Short Film, between 2 to 5 minutes long. All genres are accepted that follow the “Farm for our Future” theme.

  1. Video entries must be personal, showing what the individual, siblings’ or school groups’ families are doing to “Farm for our Future”.

  1. Video submissions must be created by and owned by the participants and uploaded as a single file in the highest quality, but no larger than 1 GB.

  1. Videos may be recorded in any language, but English subtitles are highly encouraged. In the short description of the film add the location and how it relates to “Farm for our Future”.

  1. Winners will be decided by a combination of public vote (50% of the decision) and by Agrecovery programme managers, 3R Group (50% of the decision). Public voting will be via a link on the Agrecovery website and Facebook page.  The judges’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into. A person may vote multiple times but not multiple times for the same video.

  1. Videos will be showcased on the Agrecovery Facebook page for voting purposes.

  1. Videos can be submitted from 1 April until 31 May 2017 by requesting an entry form from info@agrecovery.co.nz. Voting will open 15 May and close 18 June 2017.

  1. The judging of the film entries by 3R Group is based on the following equally weighted criteria:
  • Content clearness and effectiveness of the video in narrating a personal story about “Farming for our Future”.
  • Innovation, originality, and impact telling a rural environmental story in a fresh and unusual way, appealing to a broad and diverse audience, and encouraging further thought and action.

  1. Winners will be contacted by 23 June 2017 and will be required to be available for promotional purposes following the competition.

  1. Videos (in full or in part) may be posted on the Agrecovery website and Facebook page during and after the competition to promote Agrecovery.

By submitting to the Agrecovery Farm for our Future Video Competition 2017 you agree that:

  • The information you have submitted is correct
  • You hereby agree to be bound by the regulations of the Agrecovery “Farm for our Future” Video Competition 2017
  • You have legal right to represent and submit your video to the Agrecovery “Farm for our Future” Video Competition 2017
  • You have consent from anyone appearing in your video, and if they are under 18 years of age, you have consent from their legal guardian
  • You are responsible for all copyrights
  • You have obtained the necessary clearances for footage and music in the video
  • Agrecovery and its partners are allowed to use the entries for non-commercial public display
  • Agrecovery will not be held responsible for any legal disputes regarding the exhibition of your video
  • Your video, including all copyrights, remains the property of the author
